I know first hand, how life can often feel overwhelming, especially for women over 40. We can find ourselves juggling multiple roles and responsibilities. Whether it’s, career demands, family obligations or partners all vying for our attention. It’s not surprising that we feel that we have no time or energy to focus on our own personal goals and desires.
However, it’s important to recognise that being able to manage feelings of overwhelm, is essential to achieving your critical goals.
Here are three practical solutions to help you move forward with clarity, purpose and elevate your life.
1. Identify and Prioritise One Key Task
If you’re unsure where to focus, it’s important to identify what truly matters to you.

Its easy to start thinking about a whole list of things that you want, but just start with ONE! It doesn’t have to be a ‘big’ goal either. It could be just something simple, that means a lot to you.
Reflecting on your values, passions, and long-term aspirations can provide clarity and direction.
I would suggest that you set aside some time, take out a piece of paper or sit down at your laptop, and take some quiet time to reflect on what’s most important to you.
Consider the following questions:
- What are your core values?
- What activities make you feel most fulfilled?
- Where do you see yourself in the next five to ten years?
- What goals align with your vision for the future?
Write down your thoughts to create a clearer picture of your priorities. This process will help you identify the areas of your life that require the most attention.

Choose One Main Task
From your reflection, pinpoint one key task that will have the most significant impact on your overall goals. This task should align with your values and long-term vision.
Think of this as ‘what next step do I need to take?’
Break It Down
Once you’ve identified your MAIN task, break it down into smaller, manageable steps. This approach makes the task less daunting and allows you to make steady progress.
For example, if your key task is to improve your health, you could start with:
- Scheduling a health check-up.
- Planning a weekly meal prep.
- Incorporating a 20-minute daily walk.
By focusing on one MAIN task, you can make meaningful progress without feeling overwhelmed by the multitude of other responsibilities.
Commit to Completion
Set aside dedicated time each day or week to work on this key task. Schedule it in your calendar or set a notification as a reminder.
Make a commitment to yourself to complete it before moving on to other less critical activities. This focused approach ensures that you’re making progress on what truly matters.
2. Incorporate Daily Self-Care
Overwhelm can be reduced by incorporating daily self-care practices to maintain your physical and mental well-being.
Action for you: Dedicate 15/30 minutes each day to a self-care activity that rejuvenates you, such as a short walk, reading a book, or enjoying a relaxing bath. This practice can help clear your mind and improve your focus.
3. Seek Accountability
Having someone to hold you accountable can greatly enhance your commitment to your goals.
Action for you: Partner with a friend, family member, or coach who can check in with you regularly to discuss your progress and provide support.
