Like many women, who have reached their 40’s, we’ve already accomplished a lot in life. We have no doubt built a great career, started a family, and created a home. If you are like me, you have travelled the world and made the most of every opportunity.
Then you start to feel a bit like what’s next? As life starts to take over and become a little monotonous and sometimes overwhelming.
You don’t have the energy or drive that you once had and start to wonder, what do I want, is this the life I want to live?
Despite feeling that way, it is important to remember that life doesn’t stop, and there are still many opportunities and experiences waiting for us. This is why setting goals is so important.
Setting goals helps us to stay focused on what we want to achieve and gives us a roadmap for how to get there. It can be easy to get stuck in a routine and lose sight of what we really want, but setting goals can help us break free from that and move towards something meaningful.
I am a real advocate for them and have set goals for myself for years. Some I met and made happen, others just faded away. Because the most important thing is to take ACTION on them.
Here are some reasons why setting goals is especially important for women.
Helps You Prioritise: By setting clear goals, you can prioritise what is important to you. It helps you identify what you want to achieve, what you are willing to give up, and what you are not. This helps you stay focused and avoid distractions.
Encourages Personal Growth: Setting goals helps you to stretch yourself and grow as a person. You can challenge yourself to learn new skills, take on new responsibilities, or explore new interests. This will help you gain confidence and feel a sense of accomplishment.
Boosts Motivation: When you have a goal in mind, it can be incredibly motivating. It gives you something to work towards and keeps you focused on the end result. This can be especially helpful when you’re feeling stuck or unmotivated.
Increases Self-Awareness: By setting goals, you can become more self-aware. You’ll learn more about your strengths and weaknesses, what motivates you, and what you truly enjoy doing. This self-awareness can help you make better decisions and live a more fulfilling life.
So, how do you go about setting goals? Here are 5 tips that I hope will help you:
- Be Specific: Make your goals specific and measurable. Instead of saying “I want to exercise more,” say “I want to exercise for 30 minutes, three times a week.”
- Make Them Attainable: Make sure your goals are attainable, but still challenging. You want to stretch yourself, but not set yourself up for failure.
- Break Them Down: Break your goals down into smaller, more manageable steps. This will make them less overwhelming and help you stay motivated.
- Write Them Down: Write your goals down and keep them somewhere visible. This really is a must! This will help you stay focused and remind you of what you’re working towards.
- Review Them Regularly: Review your goals regularly and adjust them as needed. Life is unpredictable, and it’s okay to change your goals if circumstances change.
I will write down my yearly goals and then break them down to quarterly and monthly goals, so that they don’t seem so overwhelming.
