Discovering Your Path to Personal Growth: Harnessing the Power of the Wheel of Life

Discovering Your Path to Personal Growth

When I embarked on my journey to become a coach, one tool that truly resonated with me, was the Wheel of Life. It provided me with a panoramic view of the different areas of my life and helped me identify the areas of my life that demanded my attention at that time.

Now, I want to share this transformative tool with you, especially if you find yourself feeling stuck and uncertain about where to begin. This is something that I would sit and take clients through, but you can also take yourself through it.

What is the wheel of life?

The Wheel of Life is a powerful because it allows you to break down life into smaller, manageable parts. By doing so, it enables you to focus on specific areas that are primed for improvement. This visual representation encapsulates various areas of your life, such as career, relationships, health, spirituality, and more.

How can it help you?

Imagine a wheel divided into eight sections, with each section representing a specific area of your life.

These areas can be anything you want to cover and could encompass career, finances, health, personal growth, relationships, spirituality, leisure, and physical environment.

As you embark on this self-discovery journey, you rate each section on a scale of 1 to 10. A score of 1 signifies dissatisfaction, while a perfect 10 represents complete fulfilment.

Marking these scores on the wheel creates a visual representation that provides you with a bird’s eye view of how you feel about the different areas in your life.

How can you use it?

Label each section with a specific area of your life, such as career, finances, health, personal growth, relationships, spirituality, leisure, and physical environment. Leave space for you to add scores or notes later.

Step 2: Rate Your Satisfaction Level For each section, evaluate your current level of satisfaction on a scale of 1 to 10.

To effectively use the Wheel of Life, honesty with oneself is key. Begin by rating each area on the satisfaction scale. Be genuine in assessing where you stand, recognising that this exercise is solely for your benefit.

Once you have competed each area, connect the dots or lines on the wheel based on your score. You will then start to get a visual image that reveals the areas of your life that call for the most attention and improvement.

It’s vital to remember that the Wheel of Life serves as a tool for self-reflection and self-improvement. It’s not about comparing yourself to others or chasing an elusive concept of perfection.

Instead, it enables you to identify the areas of your life that require attention and empowers you to devise a plan to enhance them.
