5 Ways to Overcome the Feeling of Being Stuck in Life

Feeling stuck in life is something many women experiences, especially as we age. We might feel as though we’ve been living the same routine for years, longing for change but uncertain about where to start or afraid of the unknown. If this sounds familiar, know that even small changes can create a significant impact.

Here are some 5 simple yet effective tips to help you overcome fear and procrastination and start making positive changes in your life.

You will notice that each of the suggestions, has a theme, which surrounds them. And that is TAKE ACTION, no matter what that is, just do something.

1. Identify Small Goals – Keep it Simple

We’ve all heard the saying that the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. So, instead of overwhelming yourself with the need for a massive overhaul or waiting for the perfect time. i.e, Monday, New Year or beginning of a new month, focus on small, manageable goals now.

These could be as simple as dedicating ten minutes a day to a new hobby, reading a book that inspires you, or taking a daily walk. Small goals are less intimidating and can be the stepping stones to bigger changes.

Please don’t feel pressured into thinking that you have to have a BHAG (big, hairy, audacious goal) to make significant changes to your life. You just don’t!

2. Focus on Micro-Habits

Once you, have decided on you goals or the changes that you desire to make. Start to form micro-habits for yourself. These are tiny, manageable habits that can easily fit into your daily routine. Instead of setting a daunting goal, break it down into the smallest possible action.

For example, if you want to exercise more, start with making a commitment to yourself that you will walk, 2-3 days a week. The walks could be as little as 10 minutes, it more about the fact that you are starting to form habits for yourself each day.

Another example might be, if you want to read more, commit to reading one page a day. Make sure you set time aside to do it, maybe go to bed 10 minutes earlier or just put down your phone and pick up your book.

These micro-habits are so small that they should help you to not feel so overwhelmed or trigger resistance or procrastination. What you will start to notice, is that those small habits that you start to add to your life, will over time grow into more significant, lasting changes that transform your life.

3. Prioritise and Declutter

Another really good task to do, is to declutter. And here I am not just talking about clearing out the understairs cupboard. Although, decluttering your physical space is a great way to declutter your mind.  What I am also suggestion, is that you start to identify the most important activities that align with you achieving your desires and let go of those that don’t serve you.

Not knowing where to state or what to focus on often comes from feeling overwhelmed by just having too much on our plates. By simplifying your commitments or how you spend your time, allows you to focus your energy on what truly matters, reducing stress and increasing your effectiveness.

It might take courage to say, No, to some commitments that you currently have. Just be confident that it will definitely benefit you and your life moving forward, if you can focus on making time to create your desires.

4. Step Outside Your Comfort Zone

As Neale Donald Walsch said, ‘Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.”

Growth happens outside your comfort zone. While it’s natural to feel fear or indecision when faced with the unknown, taking even the smallest step outside your comfort zone can be incredibly empowering.

Try something new, even if it’s just a small change in your routine. Each small act of courage builds your confidence and resilience, making it easier to tackle bigger challenges in the future.

5. Embrace a Growth Mindset

It’s really important to know that to make changes in your life, it will feel uncomfortable at times and that may have been what’s been holding you back. You can feel that you are making progress and then suddenly something happens, and you feel that you have made no progress at all.

My advice is to shift your thinking from “I can’t” to “I can learn.” A growth mindset encourages you to see challenges as opportunities for growth rather than insurmountable obstacles.

Start by recognising your achievements, no matter how small, and remind yourself that every step forward is progress.

My hope is that you can take the leap and by making small changes, you can overcome the fear of feeling stuck and start living the life you desire.

Remember, transformation doesn’t require having a big hairy audacious goal, sometimes, the most profound changes come from taking the smallest steps. Embrace the journey, TAKE ACTION and commit to Elevate Your Life.

My question to you now is:  What small change can you make today?
