As we come to the end of the year, you are most probably and eagerly anticipating the possibilities that 2024 may bring, I know I am. However before trying to make 2024 ‘your best year!’. I feel that it is important to take a moment to pause and reflect on 2023.
So, before we embark on the journey of setting new goals and resolutions, it’s essential to reflect on the year gone by—2023.
The beauty of reflection lies in its ability to provide profound insights into our lives. So, let’s embark on this introspective journey together.
There is a power in reflection, as it offers us a deeper insight into our lives, behaviours, and emotions.
I’ve created a useful worksheet for you called the Reflections on 2023 Worksheet. This worksheet includes questions that I offer more insight into below.
I invite you to undertake this exercise in the hope that its helps you to plan out an amazing 2024 for yourself.

Below are some suggested questions to go along with the worksheet; you can make up your own if you prefer.
- What Went Well?
Begin by celebrating your victories—both big and small. What were your shining moments in 2023? Did you overcome challenges that once seemed insurmountable? Recognising and acknowledging your successes is a crucial step in cultivating a positive mindset.
Take note of the skills you developed, the relationships you nurtured, and the personal milestones you achieved. Reflecting on your accomplishments will not only boost your confidence but also provide a solid foundation upon which to build future goals.
2. What Didn’t Go as Planned?
Now, let’s turn our attention to the flip side. What were the stumbling blocks, the detours, or the unmet expectations? It’s okay to acknowledge setbacks; they are a natural part of the human experience. Assess the circumstances surrounding these challenges. Were they within your control, or were they external factors?
Understanding what didn’t go as planned offers valuable insights into areas that may need attention or improvement. Remember, setbacks are not failures; they are opportunities for growth.
3. How Did You Feel Across the Year?
Emotions are powerful indicators of our well-being. Take a moment to reflect on the spectrum of emotions you experienced throughout 2023. Did you find moments of joy, contentment, or fulfilment? Conversely, did you encounter stress, anxiety, or frustration?
Understanding your emotional landscape provides a roadmap for personal development. Consider the activities or circumstances that brought you joy and fulfilment. Similarly, identify the triggers for negative emotions and contemplate how you can navigate them more effectively in the future.
4. Epiphanies and Action
Did 2023 gift you with any profound realisations or epiphanies? Perhaps a newfound passion, a shift in perspective, or a deeper understanding of yourself? Reflect on whether these revelations translated into tangible actions.
Epiphanies are catalysts for change, but their true impact lies in the actions they inspire. Did you act upon your realisations, or did they linger in the realm of contemplation? If there were transformative moments, consider how they can shape your path moving forward.
5. Goals: Setting, Achieving, and Re-evaluating
Review the goals you set for yourself in 2023. Did you achieve them? If so, congratulations! Celebrate your hard work and commitment. If not, don’t be too hard on yourself. Understanding the reasons behind unmet goals is crucial for future success.
Were the goals realistic? Did unforeseen circumstances alter your trajectory? Did you lose motivation along the way? Reflecting on the process of goal setting and achievement provides valuable insights into refining your approach for 2024.
6. Moving Forward: The Right Goals for You
As you gear up for the new year, armed with the wisdom of reflection, consider the goals you’ll set for yourself. Are they aligned with your values, passions, and aspirations? Avoid succumbing to external pressures or societal expectations.
Set goals that resonate with your authentic self. Remember, the journey is just as important as the destination. Embrace growth, be kind to yourself, and relish the beauty of the transformative process.
May your reflections illuminate the path to a year filled with purpose, growth, and the fulfilment of your true potential.
