A Warm Reminder about the Mid January Lull

As we find ourselves coasting through the middle of January, I want to debunk a myth right off the bat. I don’t know if you were aware but here in the UK, the third Monday in January is called Blue Monday, and is thought to be the most depressing day of the year. Well, that’s just a load of nonsense.

But let’s call it what it is – a clever ploy by holiday marketing companies to sell more getaways. Don’t let the marketing tricks make you feel down; you’re far too savvy for that.

My purpose in today’s blog is to shed light on the importance of guarding our minds. Our subconscious is a powerful force, and what we allow into it can significantly impact our well-being. We can easily start to feel bad, just because we are listening to or engaging with negative people or content.

As we find ourselves gliding through the middle of January, it’s perfectly normal to feel a bit sluggish. The holidays are behind us, and the routine of work and life is settling back in. If you’re experiencing a touch of lethargy right now, rest assured you’re not alone.

We know that getting back into the swing of things after the festive season can be exhausting. The early mornings, the traffic, the to-do lists – it’s enough to make anyone feel drained. Remember, it’s okay to take a moment for yourself. Grab a cup of tea, take a deep breath, and acknowledge that you’re doing an amazing job balancing it all.

Not to mention the pressure to stick to new year resolutions can sometimes feel like a weight on our shoulders. The goals we set in the spirited glow of January 1st can become overwhelming as the month progresses. It’s essential to remember that change takes time. Instead of focusing on doing everything perfectly, try incorporating small, manageable changes.

Financially speaking, you might be feeling the pinch, eagerly counting down the days until payday and dreaming of those little treats. While you wait, relish in the anticipation. Perhaps it’s an ideal time to organise a cosy night in or plan a budget-friendly gathering with friends. Create a mindset of abundance rather than lack, if that’s where your thoughts go.

Personally, I start to look at what I have in the freezer and get creative with what’s left, it makes me feel a bit more productive, and is a positive procrastination task.

Plus, here the cold weather is really kicking in and it can make stepping outside seem like a monumental task at times, but worth it all the same when you do!

However, the summer’s warm days might feel like a distant memory, and daydreaming about sandy beaches and sunshine can be a delightful distraction. Researching sunny destinations and imagining the feel of sand between your toes can be an instant mood lift but stop if you find that you are starting to feel ‘lack’ by not having one booked. The idea is to dream nice thoughts and not make ourselves feel bad.

So, despite the mid-January lull, there’s no reason to feel low or blue. It’s perfectly fine to take things a bit easier as you transition into the year ahead.

 Stay warm and stay wonderful.
