As we approach two significant days centred around women this week—International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day here in the UK—I felt it’s an opportune moment to reflect not just on the remarkable women around us, but also on your own journey and achievements.
While these occasions offer an opportunity to honour and appreciate the invaluable contributions of women around us, it’s crucial not to overlook celebrating ourselves amidst our busy lives. We often forget to pause and acknowledge the journey we’ve embarked on and the growth we’ve achieved—the challenges embraced, the setbacks overcome, and the lessons learned that have shaped us into who we are today.
Acknowledging the accomplishments of others comes naturally, but extending those same feelings towards ourselves can feel selfish, overwhelming, or even challenging.
So, I want to invite you to take the time to actually celebrate you and all that you have achieved.
One exercise that you could try, is to write a Thank You to Me letter to yourself can be a powerful exercise in self-love and self-awareness. It allows you to acknowledge your own growth, accomplishments, and strengths, along with a deeper sense of appreciation for yourself.

Here are some suggestions to help guide you through the process of writing a Thanks You letter to yourself.
Set the Mood
Allocate uninterrupted time in your schedule for reflection. Choose a serene and comfortable environment where you feel at ease. Consider lighting a candle, playing calming music, or engaging in any ritual that helps you feel relaxed and focused.
Reflect on Your Journey
Take a moment to contemplate your life journey thus far. Acknowledge the challenges you’ve faced, the hurdles you’ve overcome, and the personal growth you’ve experienced along the way. Reflect on the pivotal moments that have shaped your character and resilience.
Express Gratitude
Begin your letter by expressing gratitude to yourself. Recognize your efforts, resilience, and perseverance. Thank yourself for the hard work you’ve invested and the progress you’ve made, regardless of its magnitude.
Highlight Your Achievements
Celebrate both your significant accomplishments and the small victories that have contributed to your personal growth. Whether they relate to your career, relationships, or personal development, take pride in your successes and milestones.
Acknowledge Your Growth
Reflect on the areas where you’ve evolved and matured. Recognize the valuable lessons you’ve learned from adversity and the positive changes you’ve implemented in your life. Embrace your journey of self-improvement and self-discovery.
Offer Words of Encouragement
Be compassionate and supportive towards yourself. Encourage yourself to continue moving forward with confidence and optimism. Remind yourself of your inherent strengths, resilience, and potential.
Forgive Yourself with Love
Offer yourself forgiveness for any perceived shortcomings or setbacks you’ve encountered along the way. Embrace self-compassion and recognize that you are deserving of forgiveness and understanding.
Celebrate Your Strengths
Identify and celebrate your unique strengths and qualities. Embrace the attributes that make you uniquely you.
End with Love and Acceptance
Conclude your letter with a message of self-love and self-acceptance. Embrace yourself unconditionally, flaws and all. Remind yourself that you are inherently worthy of love and appreciation.
Once you’ve completed your letter, take a moment to seal it with a gesture of self-love. Whether you choose to read it aloud, meditate on its contents, or simply tuck it away in a safe place, know that it serves as a reminder of your strength and resilience whenever you need it.
